Citi^® Gen AI Summit 2024 Takeaways: The Citi Tech Buyer Perspective on Gen AI

I had the profound honor of moderating the final session of this year’s Citi^® Gen AI Summit, which invited senior Citi leaders to discuss how Citi’s Gen AI journey is progressing across the bank. Joining me were David Griffiths, Citi’s Chief Technology Officer and Head of Engineering & Architecture; Femi Agboola, AI Productivity Lead for Citi Finance; Kausar Nawaz, Head of Client Experience Analytics and Cloud Adoption for Citi Services; Mike Remak, Head of Investments for Citi Global Wealth at Work; and Murli Buluswar, Head of Analytics for Citi U.S. Personal Banking.

Having spent the last several years investing in, testing and deploying AI throughout our organization — including via numerous Citi Ventures investments — Citi is already leveraging the technology to improve client service, modernize our legacy systems, fight fraud and more. As the bank now works to take Gen AI “from the lab to the factory floor,” these leaders and others are exploring use cases across the bank and are driving efforts to harness its power and scale its use in a safe, responsible, ethical and compliant manner.

During the session, I talked to them about their Gen AI learnings thus far, the initiatives they’re currently undertaking and their visions for the future. From knowledge management, employee productivity and personalized client experiences to the rise of autonomous AI agents and other next-gen technologies, each of them is diving deep into how Gen AI can help their businesses and functions better enable growth and progress around the world. In the end, though, all agreed with Murli when he said, "For me, it's more of a human opportunity than a technology opportunity" — an opportunity to support and empower our colleagues like never before.
